April 1st, 2008 Dear Fellow Scientist, Welcome to the Center for Advanced Brain Imaging (CABI) of The Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI). Please take a few moments to read the following letter, which will introduce you to the CABI and help you understand the goals and mission of NKI. NKI is a research institute of the Office of Mental Health (OMH) of the State of New York. This state-funded institute is dedicated to the service of OMH patients and psychiatric research. The resources of the CABI include a Siemens 1.5 Tesla Vision MR unit, a SMIS 3.0 Tesla human research MR unit, and a SMIS 7.0 Tesla 40 cm bore animal unit (the only one of its kind in the U.S.). Additionally, the CABI maintains an image analysis laboratory with numerous computer resources. All three MR units are linked to a 3.5 terabyte image archival and retrieval system running MEDx image analysis software. Numerous other analysis programs are available such as FSL, IDL, Eigenimage & Analyze. In order to facilitate scientific exchange and collaboration, CABI has established formal relationships with several academic institutions and individual investigators. I urge any individual desiring to utilize CABI resources to consult with one of our Senior Staff prior to preparing any proposals. Within this web page, you will find materials to assist you in preparing a collaborative research proposal for consideration by NKI. Please note, that any use of the CABI must be approved by the CABI Protocol Review Committee (PRC). In particular, the submission of any proposal to an outside agency, regardless of whether funding is requested, must be approved in writing by the Director of the CABI and NKI administration. I hope you find the information contained within to be informative, and we look forward to collaborating with you! Sincerely, Craig A. Branch, Ph.D. |
